Ingredients to Avoid When Shopping for Supplements

Not all supplements are created equal. Watch out for these sneaky ingredients that can actually have harmful effects on your health:

Retinyl Palmitate or sometimes known as "retinyl acetate" is used as Vitamin A in many supplements. It is made from fish or palm oil treated with chemical compounds. In a study from 1995, pregnant women that took 10,000 IU of Retinyl Palimate from daily supplements had a 240% greater incidence of having a child with birth defects.

Ascorbic Acid is made from genetically modified corn sugar, that is then hydrogenated and processed with acetone (nail polish remover!). This synthetic form of vitamin C lacks the co-factors necessary for proper absorption, making it hard for your kidneys to process

Folic Acid is the synthetic version of vitamin B9. It is made from petroleum derivatives and other chemicals. In a study from 2006, participants that took Folic Acid supplements had a 20-30% increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and cancer.

At Terra, you'll only find vitamins made from food, aglae, and herbs. When vitamins come from food (as nature intended), there are virtually no risks or side effects.

Magnesium Stearate is a common additive that is used to prevent product from sticking to assembly lines during production, therefore reducing waste and boosting profits. Unfortunately, magnesium stearate, which is made from GMO cottonseed oil, has been shown to reduce the bioavailability of certain nutrients and is difficult for the liver and kidneys to process.

Gelatin Capsules are the cheapest form of capsule and are very widely used, however, they can have side effects when taken in excess, such as: digestive issues allergic reactions, and liver and kidney damage.

At terra, we make it easy to shop for clean supplements. you won't find any products with the ingredients listed above on our shelves, plus ours are always organic or certified pesticide free.
